I love CSS but I have spent countless hours swearing at my computer because of CSS... It's a love/hate relationship really. Although web standards have been around for a while now, people still use tables and improper code to create websites. For the most part I'm not talking about professional websites, but for a lot of people, it's easier/quicker to just write using traditional methods despite it's obvious ...

In response to the increasing traffic to my company's retail store website, I have decided to redesign the current website to handle more features. My plans are to build the content management system off Wordpress in addition to a couple other social networking features including individual user logins and photo sharing to name a few. Here is the initial comp for the redesign and as always I will ...

What I am going to explain is how I have taken advantage of the ad variation feature of the Google Adwords service. This will be relevant to people who currently manage or are in the process of designing a PPC (Pay-per-click) campaign. I've had somewhat of an advantage in learning to use Google Adwords in that a large portion of my full time job at one point was ...

I was just over at Thoof.com and something happened out of the ordinary. It sort of happened the other day too but this time, it was a little more intense. Here's the scenario - I registered for a user account at Thoof.com a couple days ago, and their registration process went like this:
1. Click sign up (a couple form fields appear)
2. Enter your email address
3. Click sign up
That's ...

I haven't been spending too much time on PPC recently at work with my company opening up new retail stores in Buffalo and all, but I had this question saved from a while ago. It still confuses me so I wanted to put it out there and see if I could get some insight from from some people in the know.
So here's my question:
If a person clicks our ...

Want to create a successful social networking site?
Here's 3 things worth keeping in mind:
1. Pay attention
2. Be creative
3. Be exclusive
This article focuses on purely the social aspects which work for the leaders in social networking right now. I'll also point out some features of these sites which I think aren't working as well as they were originally intended.

In part 1 I tried to explain the basics of HTML. Now, I will go into a little more detail.First things first. Let's look at some code. I want to explain the different parts of a standard HTML page.
Every complete web page needs the following elements:
- html
- head
- body
Each element must be enclosed in the right tags for that element (a tag is a way to describe the ...

I want to focus less on design theory and more on specific dos & don'ts, so just to brush up on what I talked about in the first part of this article...
If your "business card" doesn't say:
What you do & how to contact you by...
Email (use a real email, not your free Gmail address)
& by Phone
...it isn't a business card.

I just finished designing business cards for myself and for a coffee company I am starting. I've spent a lot of time pouring over "designer business cards" and "most incredibly designed business cards" articles. It's going to seem like I get annoyed pretty easily (which I do) but in the end, I believe it makes me appreciate the good designs even more when I realize how rare they ...

Recently a co-worker has been interested in learning a little bit of HTML. He's very insightful in realizing the huge value you get for investing a little time. Honestly there's really only a little bit you need to learn in order to have a pretty good understanding of HTML. I always tell people, "I could teach you in 5 minutes - it's simple." I'm going to give you ...

I have been trying all day to download this file from Wordpress.org and the file 1. takes forever to start downloading, 2. takes forever to download and 3. is corrupt when I try to open it. It must be my computer here at the office but I can't imagine why.
If anyone else had this problem and figured out the answer, please let me know.

I've spend the the last couple days designing and developing the shopping cart/billing/shipping section of AtomicCoffeeShop.com which includes integration with the United States Postal Service's API.
In theory it sounds pretty cool, but in actuality, it's only been up and running for me for a day or so and I'm already coming across problems. In testing alone, their server seems like it's down. I'm getting a lovely "HTTP request ...

I just want to post a quick update from the Search Engine Strategies conference in Toronto. Compared to last year so far I have seen a higher focus on building an authorative linking campaign and more importantly a higher degree of respect and understanding of influential bloggers.
I also noticed panelists focusing less on CTR and technical aspects - and more on content and real valuable SEM techniques. Also ...

I recently restructured the product pages of my company's retail store website so that the urls contain product specific keywords. The goal was to increase our ranking for searches for those specific products obviously.
Here's an example of the restructured url:
http://www.daveandadamsstore.com/Buffalo-Sabres/Jerseys/
the previous url looked like this:
...update... in searching for the previously indexed link on Google to one of our product pages (which looked something like ../products.php?productid=5) I noticed that ...

I don't know if anyone else is experiencing this, but I use Google Analytics on three different sites using three different servers with two different companies. None of our server side code changed but all three sites stopped reporting information around 3pm yesterday evening EST.
If anyone else is experiencing this, please comment. Or post a link to another discussion about this. I can't find any current news about ...

Here are the things which I use to keep my Adwords campaigns in line. They have worked well over the last year as I have increased my company's revenue ~10 fold and have been able to hold a consistent ROI over the course of that increase.
