So there's a lot going on with Google and their Supplemental Index recently. I honestly haven't been paying close attention to any super new news, but I do know a couple ways which people have tried to figure out if their site is in Google's Supplemental index. Here are some various methods and how my site stacks up.
Method (Number of pages | description of results):

digg_url = 'http://digg.com/design/How_to_Combine_Social_Networking_and_E_Commerce';
In my opinion, there are two ways to combine social networking and e-commerce:
1) Create a social network around your products (Social commerce)
2) Market products to your social network (Modified traditional social networking)
- #1 Social Commerce -
In this first case, what you have is essentially a supercharged e-commerce store. You build your store as the focus of the site, and tightly integrate community features into it. For ...

I was having a conversation a while ago about blogging and coming up with ideas for articles/posts/etc. and my friend mentioned that he was trying to convince his father how effective it could be for their business. His father wasn't familiar with writing for the web but had been running a successful business for years and had tons of experience and insight that they could be writing about. ...

What I am going to explain is how I have taken advantage of the ad variation feature of the Google Adwords service. This will be relevant to people who currently manage or are in the process of designing a PPC (Pay-per-click) campaign. I've had somewhat of an advantage in learning to use Google Adwords in that a large portion of my full time job at one point was ...

I haven't been spending too much time on PPC recently at work with my company opening up new retail stores in Buffalo and all, but I had this question saved from a while ago. It still confuses me so I wanted to put it out there and see if I could get some insight from from some people in the know.
So here's my question:
If a person clicks our ...

I just want to post a quick update from the Search Engine Strategies conference in Toronto. Compared to last year so far I have seen a higher focus on building an authorative linking campaign and more importantly a higher degree of respect and understanding of influential bloggers.
I also noticed panelists focusing less on CTR and technical aspects - and more on content and real valuable SEM techniques. Also ...

I recently restructured the product pages of my company's retail store website so that the urls contain product specific keywords. The goal was to increase our ranking for searches for those specific products obviously.
Here's an example of the restructured url:
http://www.daveandadamsstore.com/Buffalo-Sabres/Jerseys/
the previous url looked like this:
...update... in searching for the previously indexed link on Google to one of our product pages (which looked something like ../products.php?productid=5) I noticed that ...

I don't know if anyone else is experiencing this, but I use Google Analytics on three different sites using three different servers with two different companies. None of our server side code changed but all three sites stopped reporting information around 3pm yesterday evening EST.
If anyone else is experiencing this, please comment. Or post a link to another discussion about this. I can't find any current news about ...

Here are the things which I use to keep my Adwords campaigns in line. They have worked well over the last year as I have increased my company's revenue ~10 fold and have been able to hold a consistent ROI over the course of that increase.

This post could also be titled: PPC Referrers Taking Too Much Credit?
The problem with tracking online sales is trying to determine why someone made the purchase. Was it because they saw our banner ad and just remembered our name? Was it because they found our ad on some SERP when searching for a product? Or did they come to our site directly and make a purchase but only ...

So about 45 minutes ago, Google dropped a new interface onto their Analytics tool. My initial thoughts are that overall it's easier to use, faster, and more intuitive. It's also very flashy in a subtle way (if that's possible.) Here are some of my observations.
New features:
1. Dashboard & report widgets. Allows you to create any chart with specific filters and save it to your dashboard. From there you can rearrange ...

We noticed today that our Yahoo! Search Marketing campaign shows a conversion on the keyword 'baseball card sale' though it shows no clicks on that keyword for today. Google Analytics shows a conversion for the exact same amount though it credits Yahoo! organic for the conversion also indicating that the buyer typed in 'dave adam' into a Yahoo! search to find us, then purchased an item.
Consider the following ...

Our company is in the middle stages of transitioning from advertising in traditional print publications to online advertising channels. I was contacted recently by xxx company who's service was in providing local searches. We decided to try out a national campaign with them the terms of which seemed pretty logical and simple. Basically, we write up a business profile explaining which products & brands/manufacturer's we offer, our address, ...

Here are two services which offer heat-mapping services for your websites at a variety of price ranges. I have been using Crazyegg.com now for several months on multiple projects and since there was no other comprable service that I was aware of, it suited my needs, though apparently now there are others, such as ClickTwist.com as pointed out by Mark (thanks Mark!) which I will have to give ...

Several months after I took over our company's Adwords account, I began tracking the sales via Analytics and an Excel spreadsheet. I used the information to calculate my weekly commission - based off of the campaign's past week's ROI. I noticed that the conversions shown in Adwords did not match up with the conversions shown in Analytics. So I contacted Google.
10+ emails and about 3 weeks later, I ...
