Product Review: Dell 22″ Widescreen LCD Monitor

Pros:
- Huge & inexpensive per square inch of screen
- Doesn’t look or feel cheap.
- VGA & DVI hookups
Cons:
- Sometimes I notice that when I initially turn on the monitor, it needs a minute to brighten up, but once it’s up it stays consistently very bright.
Summary:
Honestly, for this price - there’s nothing to complain about. It’s a quality monitor which I liked so much I have one for home and one for the office. I’m considering replacing all my monitors with these. The style is very simplistic and doesn’t look or feel cheap. A step up from this is the 24″ Dell Ultra Sharp which costs… $669! The difference is actually that the 24″ is brighter, has a higher contrast ratio, a faster refresh rate, is 30% larger screen space and also is loaded with USB ports, and media reader slots. So the higher price is justifiable but if you’re looking for a larger bare bones flat panel monitor, the Dell 22″ Widescreen Flat Panel Monitor is a good bet for $309 (I actually bought mine on sale at Dell.com for $299).
I want to say something else as well. The following statement isn’t really an opinion of the quality of this specific product but just the size in general. The 22″ wide screen significantly increases working efficiency. Using Photoshop, writing code, working with spreadsheets, transferring network files, and doing basically anything else is so much easier and faster. I find that most of the time if I have 6 or 8 programs opened, I have them opened up to only take up half the screen, so I can basically view two programs at once. I think it’s great, but some lazy people tell me it’s overkill.
Anyways, if you’re considering a new monitor, there’s no reason not to spend a little more to get the huge advantages of having a 22″ wide screen flat panel.
I give this product a thumbs up.

It’s been almost 5 months since I’ve had this thing and I want to report that I have noticed 1 dead pixel that has come forward recently. It’s so small it looks like a piece of dust. I’m really not upset about it as it’s pretty inconspicuous, I just thought I’d share.
