Getting Google to re-index your page
I recently restructured the product pages of my company’s retail store website so that the urls contain product specific keywords. The goal was to increase our ranking for searches for those specific products obviously.
Here’s an example of the restructured url:
http://www.daveandadamsstore.com/Buffalo-Sabres/Jerseys/
the previous url looked like this:
…update… in searching for the previously indexed link on Google to one of our product pages (which looked something like ../products.php?productid=5) I noticed that our site is now indexed under the restructured url.
My question was going to be in regards to how long people find that it usually takes the Google bot to replace old urls with new ones. Apparently the answer (for us) is - within about one week. BTW, we’re on page 1 at the top for some of the products on our site, which I attribute to having built the site correctly. Though on the flip side we are on about page 3 for searches for “Buffalo Sabres Jerseys” which I attribute to the stronger presence of competition since it is a more highly demanded item.
So if anyone is searching for answers about how long google takes to reindex your page … that was mine.

One Week?! Nice. Could be a combination of Freshbot rewarding you for constantly updating your site. Then it tells the Deepbot to go back and do a deepcrawl. Or you did your restructuring right before the deepcrawl. I could be wrong though. Not exactly sure if Freshbot and Deepbot communicate.
